Kuffar

I am really sick and tired of what I hear of should I say forced to hear.
I need an answer from any one who will read this blog and the question will go like this:
If you are a Muslim, what word Kuffar means?

and

If you are non Muslim, do you have similar word in your religion?
I know this is not a new question but I need help in this!

Well as far as I know for Muslims, "Kuffar" or infidels are the people that do not believe in prophet Mohamed, hence anyone who is not Muslim.
As for other religions I do not think it is mentioned in the same meaning but as an arabic word it could describe the non-believers in God, hence the atheists, the peagents.

Hmm - a word in my language could be translated to "heathen" in english. It´s used rarely and in a joking way.

As far as I understand "kuffar" is sometimes used in a judging way - ie it's VERY bad to be a kuffar and some even believe that kuffars should convert or deserve death. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've never met anyone using words or expressing ideas about different religions like that.

There are a small group of nazis/racists, who want all foreigners out of the country, but I don't think they would care about, what religion they had.

Where I come from religion is a very private matter.

Best wishes

Hey Stine, haven't read any comments from you for a while.
Thanks for your answer.
I am just wondering what do you mean by
"I've never met anyone using words or expressing ideas about different religions like that."

Hi Statler and Waldorf.

I read your blog every day, but I seldom leave comments. I'm just curious about your lives and how you think.

To answer your question, I have to describe how the majority of people think.
As I said religion is very private, where I come from. It's a subject to discuss with your close friends and your family, but it's not something to talk about at work or with your neighbours.

Religion is separated from politics and religion is not used in a political context.

I have never met anyone condemning me or others for not belonging to the right religion or for not being religious enough. And I have never heard anyone being called names like "kuffar" or anything equivalent.

Maybe it's because it's very bad manners here to judge others. People would say somthing like "not to throw a stone if you live in a glass house".
If somebody called me names because of my religion or telling me I wasn't good enough, I would ask them to leave judgment to God and I would tell the person, that taking Gods place is vanity.

There are a few people here, who have fundamentalist views. They represent minority political parties, atheists, moslems and christians.
There was an incident like the uncovered-meat story from Australia some years ago. There are some saying Islam is an evil religion. Nazis don't like coloured people, gypsies and jews and want all foreigners out of the country.
They all have their controversial ideas and they talk to jounalists so I have read about the views and ideas.
But I've never met anyone like that at work or in my daily life.

My boss is an atheist. He finds all religious ideas silly. I'm really interested in philosophy, religion, ethics - things like that - and he respects and appreciates, that we are different.
