No change in the second article.

Of the Egyptian constitution, the one which states that Islam is the Religion of the State, Arabic is its official language, and the principal source of legislation is Islamic Jurisprudence (Sharia).

There were numerous enlightened voices along with the Christian minority calling for the removal or amendment of the 2nd article as it directly violates the rest of the constitution which states that people are equal with no regards to religious beliefs. And also it could pave the way for an Islamic like state.

But his Highness prince Gamal Mubarak assured us all yesterday and denied any such allegations.

Thank you sir, now I can sleep better.

it all started when late president Sadat has added 2 letters stating that "shariia" is THE (one and only) source of legislation ...before this addition ..Shariia was "A" source of legislation ...does that mean that before the change Egypt was not an islamic country ??
if we turn it back to its origins...does that mean that Egypt will no longer be an islamic country ????
many questions remain unanswered...
Sadat made this change to counter act the growing influence of the leftists back in the 70's , he also gave a big support and margin of freedom to the rightists (islamics)
he was the 1st one to pay the price ...
God save Egypt.
